Austin is one of the fittest cities in the country. But how does this great city of ours stay so fit when many of the surrounding cities are actually some of the fattest? Clear and simple: we have the amenities. Most apartment buildings offer state-of-the-art 24 hour gyms and resort style pools, but Austin provides fitness features that go well beyond just that. What other city can boast a 10-mile walking/running/biking trail that runs alongside a lake full of canoe, kayak, and SUP rental shops. And in addition to the usual Starbucks, Austin basically has at least one fitness studio on every block. When you live in such an active metropolis, the biggest question is this: where is the best place to live to take advantage of all of the fitness perks that Austin has to offer? Here is our list of the top 5 austin apartments to live in to stay fit!
5. The Catherine
A new downtown apartment, The Catherine sits on Barton Springs Road right next to the Long Center. In addition to the premier gym and luxury pool available to the apartment’s residents, it is only a two second walk from the either the 1st Street bridge and the Congress bridge, two access points onto Butler Trail around Lady Bird Lake. If you’re looking for more than just the trail, you can easily find water sport rental spots along the path or you can make your way to Zilker Park for some pick-up sports.
4. Cityview at SoCo
Its South Congress location makes Cityview one of the top apartments in town to live in. Along with the customary pool and gym, the apartment sits right by the Congress Bridge access point onto Butler Trail and Lady Bird Lake, and Zilker Park is only a short walk away. South Congress is also full of markets, boutiques, and restaurants, making it a fun street to walk up and down.
3. Amli 300
Located on South Lamar between 5th street and Cesar Chavez, the Amli 300 sits on prime Austin property. Lady Bird Lake, the trail, and Zilker Park are right in your backyard. If the apartment gym isn’t enough for you, the YMCA is only 100 yards from the building. Also, the Whole Foods headquarters is just across the street. Need some new fitness gear? Title Nine, Luke’s Locker, and Lululemon are only a stone’s throw away to help you stock up on the best athletic apparel. What more could you want?
2. The Bowie
The Bowie has gone above and beyond for its residence, offering in-house SUP, kayak, and bike rentals. But while the trail and lake is right there, maybe it isn’t your thing. No fear, The Bowie is in walking distance from some of the hottest fitness studios in Austin. Get your yoga fix at CorePower Yoga, feel the burn at Barre3, and find any fitness class you want at Spark Fitness Club. Once you finish your workout, Whole Foods is right there to help you fuel up for the rest of your day.
1. Gables Park Plaza
This is by far my dream apartment in Austin, Texas. Not only is it right on Lady Bird Lake, there’s a walking bridge that takes you over busy Cesar Chavez right on to the Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge of the trail. While The Bowie is in close proximity to Barre3 and Spark Fitness Club, Gables Park Plaza actually sits on top of the barre studio and is only right across the street from the gym! With Luke’s Locker stationed right there as well, you don’t even have to leave the building to find a great pair of running shoes. Luke’s Locker will take care of all of your fitness needs. Whole Foods, Title Nine, and Lululemon are all in the neighborhood as well. You really couldn’t ask for more!
